Compacted Math – Eastlake Middle

EASTLAKE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Compacted Integrated Math/ Integrated Math Course I Placement

Dear Incoming 7th Grade Student/ Parent,

We are looking forward to welcoming your student to Eastlake Middle School in the Fall semester.  In the Sweetwater Union High School District, we offer an opportunity to enroll in an accelerated math class in 7th grade.  This course is called Compacted Math 7 and the course accelerates/compacts 3 years of math (Integrated Math 7, Integrated Math 8, Integrated Math Course I) into two years.

Students enrolled in Compacted Math will complete the following math sequence in middle school:

  • 7th grade – 2 years of math (Math 7 & Math 8) compacted in 1 year
  • 8th grade – Integrated Math Course I (first year of high school math)
  • Fast pace and rigorous coursework.

How do I know if my child is a good candidate for Compacted Math?

  • Strong math and academic skills
  • Student motivation to complete math at an accelerated pace
  • Strong 5th grade SBAC/CAASPP scores (Math Performance Bands that Meets standards or Exceeds Standards)
  • Strong math grades on 6th grade report card (Grades that meet or exceed Common Core Math Standards 3 or 4 grades

If you would like your child to be placed in the Compacted Math Course, please complete the following Google Form:

Camp Refunds & Butterbraid Fundraiser

Please note that we (6th grade team) have discovered that we are not able to include fundraiser monies in the 6th Grade Camp refunds since fundraising money is considered “public funds”.  Parents who paid their own money towards their childs’ 6th Grade Camp will receive a refund shortly.

The Butter Braid fundraiser raised roughly $7,000 and was designated to offset the cost of 6th Grade Camp.  These funds can only be spent in a manner that benefits all current or future 6th grade students at Camarena.

Attached is a survey asking for suggestions on how to spend these funds.  All survey input must be received no later than Friday, May 8 and as a team decide next steps.  The 6th grade team will review the surveys and make a decision with guidance from administration on how best to use these fundraiser monies.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Ms. Abuyo & 6th Grade Teachers

Broadcasting Request – Memory of the Year or Shoutouts

Mrs. Chatham and the broadcasting team is requesting for 6th grade students to record a 15 second video clip either of a memory of the year or a shout out to a friend or teacher.

For the shout out, they must add more than the person’s name but a message to maybe thanking them for an act of kindness or how they were a great friend throughout elementary school.

You can add your video clip to Broadcasting’s Google Drive

OR

You can email me the video: zsarajoyce.abuyo@cvesd.org and I will turn in to Mrs. Chatham for you.

This will be an ongoing event so turn them in as soon as you can 🙂

Library Books

If your student has any library books at home, you can drive through the front parking lot and drop off library books on Tuesdays and Thursdays (April 21, 23, 28, and 30) from 1pm-3pm. Dr. McLaren, Ms. Valdivia, and Ms. Murphy will be there!

If your student has library books in the classroom, you do not need to worry about those.

If your student has books from our classroom library, you also do not need to worry about those 🙂
